Google Ads For Therapists
from someone who worked @ Google
Being highly visible where the vast majority of potential patients are searching for a therapist is not a nice to have, it’s a need to have.
In this space, Google is no longer a luxury; it's a necessity. Whether someone is searching for a therapist specializing in trauma or one who shares cultural commonalities, Google Ads place you at the forefront of their consideration. But maximizing this tool requires a strategic approach.
Understanding your audience is at the core of a successful ad campaign. As we begin working together, the first step will be integrating Google Analytics with your ads account. This integration provides invaluable insights into your audience's behavior, allowing us to continually refine our strategies.

How I Help Therapists with Google Ads
Clients don’t know where to find a therapist. So most start on Google. Searching for something like “therapist near me.”
Many therapists hesitate to use Google Ads because it’s intimidating, cost concerns, or past unsuccessful attempts, properly managed campaigns can yield significant returns. To get new clients, you need to bring those people looking for therapy to your website. Google Ads put your practice at the top of search results when someone types in "therapy in [city]" or searches for your specific niche, such as “couples therapy online” or “EMDR therapist Chicago”
As a specialist in Google Ads for therapists, I've helped over 75+ psychotherapists connect with new clients. I understand the platform, the unique needs of therapy practices, and what potential clients consider when searching for a therapist.
Google Ads Are:
Targeted: Reach targeted potential clients based on their specific search intent, ensuring you're reaching people at their moment of intent.
🎯
Visible: Your ads appear at the top of a search page, making it easy for potential clients to find you. Unlike SEO and Social can take months to show results
🔎
Cost-Effective: Most therapists only need to spend $500/mo. If Google Ads bring in just 1 new client monthly, ads pay for themselves many times over during the time you working with a client
⚖️
Trackable: Google Ads performance in real time, letting you see exactly what ads contribute to your business providing measurable results that other platforms can’t offer
🐾
My 6 Stages of Starting Google Ads
1
Keyword Research
I find the best keywords related to your practice so your ads show up when potential clients search for services like yours.
2
Targeting
I make sure your ads reach people in the right areas, like specific zip codes or cities. Whether you're focused on clients in a city, a suburb, or across states for telehealth, I target the right locations.
3
Crafting Effective Ads
I write ads that not only grab attention but also connect with what your potential clients are searching for.
4
Using Negative Keywords
I have a list of over 1,400 words & names to block you ads from showing up in irrelevant searches. This helps save your money and ensures only the right people see your ads.
5
Optimizing
Ad campaigns are like ivy. Sometimes they grow in weird directions.I review your ad performance regularly, making changes to improve how your ads work, from keywords to targeting. This helps your ads stay relevant and effective at reaching the right clients.
6
The First 8 Inquiries
I stay managing your account until you receive 8 inquiries from people who visited your website after clicking on an ad. After 8 we can pause, you can take the reins, or keep me on month to month.

Frequently Asked Questions 🪩
-
You have an existing website today
You have an individual page on your website for each specialty or niche that you’d like to try advertising
Your website brings in a few new client inquiries every month
-
My standard engagement includes up to 3 specialites at a time.
If you'd like more, I can include new campaigns for $250/per. -
To start, I recommend a budget of $450-$500 per month. This ensures that your ads are shown frequently enough for Google's systems to have enough data to learn from performance and improve over time.
-
I stay on managing your account until you receive 8 inquiries from ads - these are people who clicked on an ad, came to your site, and filled out the contact form.
This usually take 4 - 8 weeks with a strong website but each specialty and geography is different.
-
Once your ads bring in 8 inquiries you can choose to pause the ads, take the reigns, or keep me on retainer for managing the ads and answering other general marketing questions for $240/month.
If you pause you're always able to restart with me at a later date when you need more clients. -
A few years ago a family friend that runs a group practice said he needed digital marketing help and asked if I had any ideas.
From there 1 client became 3 then 5 and the work snowballed.I've found it more rewarding to help the helpers and the little guys than to help well established brands.
Getting Started & Project Flow
Intro Call: We’ll discuss your practice, niches, goals, answer any questions about Google Ads or therapist marketing, and if we’re a fit to work together. If we move forward, I send a Statement of Work outlining projects, deliverables, and cost for approval before beginning.
Website Updates: I’ll add Google Analytics and set up conversions if they’re not already on your website. I may suggest some very light website edits such as, adding more contact buttons to help improve your UX and Conversion Rate.
Google Ads Setup: I’ll build campaigns tailored to your practice, including keyword research, ad copy, and targeting specific to your location, specialties, and preferred client type.
Launch & Optimize: Once campaigns are live, I monitor performance daily and adjust based on performance- dialing up what's working and removing what’s not.
New Client Inquiries: With ads live, you’ll start seeing new website visits, inquiries, and client calls. On average, it takes 4-8 weeks for the first 8 leads from Google Ads to come in.
